Site:
Shell Rock Preserve
19316 Yucca Avenue
Nora Springs, IA 50458
MapQuest Map
Please follow the map. There are false entrances complete with signs for the "Shell Rock Preserve" on the two East-West roads upstream and downstream of the park (277th St and 290th St). The gates probably won't be open. If they are, don't go in unless you just want a rustic drive - the greenbelt road will lead you right by the campground but the gate between the greenbelt and the campground is locked. You want the entrance on Yucca Ave. which is a more-or-less North-South road.
Photos from the event.

Site Rules:
Fires only in fire rings (of which there are several) or other appropriate recepticles.
No harvesting wood on site.
It is illegal to possess keg, or alcohol in containers larger than a quart. No consumption of alcohol after 10:30pm.
Must take out own garbage.
All pets must be kept confined or on a leash.
It is illegal to remove, injure, destroy, or deface any natural or man-made structures or materials, including trees, flowers, plants, or wildlife except with the permission of the park board. (Mushrooms, fruits, and nuts can be harvested for personal use.)
Firearms and weapons are allowed only in areas designated for hunting and shooting. (There are none at the campground.)
No archery.
No peddling, hawking, begging, advertising or carrying on of business or other commercial enterprise.
Quiet hours from 10:30 pm to 6:00 am.
Details:
The site is not reservable, which means we do not have exclusive use of the park and cannot block public access to park facilities.
Site is wet. (Just no kegs, as noted above.)
There is no drinking water on site. (The functioning hand pump on site is non-potable.) Water coolers can be refilled at Sofya's clinic in Nora Springs.
Going barefoot is a BAD idea. (Lots of broken glass esp. around the fire rings.)
Bring extra toilet paper for the pit toilets.
There is a "farm light" but no other electricity.
Parking on-site is limited. One vehicle per household only, please. (Extra vehicles can be parked at Sofya's clinic.)
There is a private home immediately next to the campground, so we need to be respectful of the quiet hours and not block any driveways.
Site Possibilities:
Eating
Open-fire cooking
Relaxing in the shade (or the sun)
Watching for wild turkey, deer and other wildlife
Games such as Kubb and Goose
Field/ravine/woods battles, etc. No combat archery, though, it seems. (No "war-like games that utilize projectiles")
River walks
Berry picking
Wading/boating (bring your own boat)
A&S projects/informal classes
Site improvement - this is a site that can benefit from our tradition of leaving things nicer than we find them.
